Sunday Igboho Vows Exposure as Killing of Abducted Teacher Sparks Outrage in Oyo State
Tension is rising across Oyo State following fresh developments in the kidnapping incident that affected three schools in Oriire Local Government Area, as activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, renewed his threat to expose alleged political sponsors behind the attack.
The schools targeted in the coordinated assault include Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, Esiele, and L.A. Primary School. Reports indicate that dozens of pupils and staff were taken during the raid, triggering a widespread security response across affected communities.
Security agencies have since intensified operations, reportedly sealing off possible escape routes as the attackers fled into a nearby forest reserve linked to the Old Oyo National Park axis The terrain is believed to be providing cover for the armed group as search efforts continue.
In a tragic escalation, one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was later killed. A video circulated online reportedly showed him beheaded after being held by the kidnappers, a development that has intensified public anger and fear across the state.
Following the incident, Igboho called for stronger action against armed groups operating in the forests, saying he had earlier volunteered to assist in flushing out the criminals. He stated that he had sought approval to activate his security initiative known as the Iru Ekun Security Network, aimed at targeting criminal hideouts across the South West.
He also expressed willingness to comply with the Oyo State Government’s Executive Order regulating private security operations in the state under Governor Seyi Makinde, insisting that coordination with authorities was necessary to avoid further loss of innocent lives.
Igboho maintained that the attack was not isolated, alleging that those behind it have support networks that extend beyond the immediate attackers. He reiterated his earlier claim that he may reveal names of individuals he believes are connected if the situation continues without decisive action. The incident has left residents on edge, with growing calls for improved security presence in rural communities and forest bordering areas where armed groups are believed to operate with increasing boldness.
